For Anyone Who's Ever Written A Post At 4:30 AM

From Wired.com:

3 Smart Things About Sleeping Late

1 // You may need more sleep than you think.

Research by Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders Center found that people who slept eight hours and then claimed they were "well rested" actually performed better and were more alert if they slept another two hours. That figures. Until the invention of the lightbulb (damn you, Edison!), the average person slumbered 10 hours a night.

2 // Night owls are more creative.
Artists, writers, and coders typically fire on all cylinders by crashing near dawn and awakening at the crack of noon. In one study, "evening people" almost universally slam-dunked a standardized creativity test. Their early-bird brethren struggled for passing scores.

3 // Rising early is stressful.
The stress hormone cortisol peaks in your blood around 7 am. So if you get up then, you may experience tension. Grab some extra Zs! You'll wake up feeling less like Bert, more like Ernie.

I sleep 9-10 hours a night and feel great. Usually it involves going to bed about 2 a.m. and waking up at noon.

That's how I work.

Sleep is over rated . . . we all are more productive without it . . . my body wakes me up after a good six hours of slumber . . . good night all.

Exactly. Why do you think I'm proud that I'm a night owl? I always tell the many people that get up at 6 a.m. every day: "I don't know how you can put yourself through that."

For some reason, the office world is stuck on 8-5 whether the job actually requires it or not. If my schedule was 10-4 or they would let me work when I know I need to, my job would get more out of me.

The all mighty Billable Hour.

I see this hypothesis and raise it. Let's do six days a week, 28 hours each. That way we can stay awake longer and sleep in, just doing it less frequently.

At least that would make my life a lot easier! I have to be exhausted in order to fall asleep, but once I do, I can sleep forever.
