Heartbreaking Pack: Topps Bazooka 2006

I've never opened a pack of this stuff before so when I stumbled upon this in the clearance bin at Target I thought I would give it a go...

Gum: hard as a rock and cracked.

This Orlando's card is super thick...I almost thought I had stumbled upon a jersey card.

I like the blue borders a lot...if only they didn't have to use the Bazooka Joe cartoon lettering...

Who doesn't need more Torii Hunter stickers?

While I just confessed my love for pitchers that stick around forever, I just don't feel the same way about position players. Moises has been around 17 seasons and his stats are most comparable with Edgar Martinez and Ellis Burks.

Couldn't Danny have put on the cleats just for picture day?

This has to be one of the worst photo cards ever...

The highlight of the pack is definitely this Carmona Rookie Card...If he returns to his 19-8 form next year it might be worth something someday

And last but not least, the Bazooka cartoon about the league's shortest game which seems to have been printed on wax paper.

I opened a blaster of that year's bazooka basketball...God awful design and the wax paper stuff drives me nuts. I pulled a decent Dwight Howard jersey though and a few ok rookies. Also, I've enjoyed your blog, and appreciate your Dave Eggers reference

What is worse than a butt shot on a baseball card? A butt shot of a player who looks like he just soiled his pants.

ak-47 -- thanks for the nice words...I'm working my way through Eggers' most recent book "What is the What" right now...

laurens -- I didn't think I could hate the card more until I read your comment and examined the card a little closer!

I've always been a fan of these little oddball sets that Topps puts out every year, and these actually look pretty good.

I like the Fausto Carmona card, but does Topps have to tell us that it's a rookie card? A rookie card from an oddball set at that... a bit of overkill I guess.
