In Praise Of Ellis Burks

2004 Donruss Throwback Threads #PT-23 Ellis Burks Jersey Card 104/250

You might not appreciate Ellis Burks as a great offensive threat but here are a few points that might change your mind.

In Ellis' rookie year he became only the third Red Sox ever top hit 20 home runs in a season and steal bases. A few seasons later he became only the second Red Sox player to ever hit two home runs in the same inning. A few years later when Ellis was with the Rockies, he and Dante Bichette became the second duo ever to both hit 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases for the same team in the same year. Overall, Ellis played for 18 years and had over 350 home runs and over 2100 hits. Now, you know and knowing is half the battle.

I contemplated being a Burks Super Collector but decided not to cause there were to many years that he was not a Red Sox.

I have a post for Burks coming up on my blog as well. He is currently serving as a special instructor for the Reds in spring training.
