Heartbreakingly Great Names #19: Greasy Neale

Greasy's real name was Alfred Earle Neale. Although he was famous for being the lead-off batter for the Cincinnati Reds in the Black Sox World Series, his real claim to fame is his football career in which he coached the Philadelphia Eagles to back-to-back championships in 1948 and 1949. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1969.

I didn't realize Mr. Neale had played baseball. When I saw the thumbnail of the card I thought it was from some sort of long lost Conlon football set. Cool.
