They Were A Diamond King?

Reader Michel R. sent me a box of cards recently and you can divide these Diamond Kings into two categories..."Hall of Famers [or should be Hall of Famers]" and "They Were A Diamond King?"

And here is a Jeff Bagwell Diamond King after a significant redesign:"They Were A Diamond King?"

Donruss often stumped my in the 1980s by their choices, but I liked the way they did it back then: 1 player per team, and each player could only be a DK once every 4 or 5 years. I don't understand why Kal Daniels was selected as the Reds' rep in 1988...Nick Esasky and John Franco would have been much better selections.
