1962 Mars Attacks #37: The Creeping Menace

There was no Mars Attacks Heritage in the mail for me today so we'll dive into another original from my original 1962 Mars Attaks set.  This one is card #37 and titled the "Creeping Menace."  Clearly anything from the 60's with "menace" in the title has some Soviet/communist "red menace" overtones.  Is it any wonder the bug has giant red eyes?

Card #37 also begins a run of nine cards in which no actual green Martians are shown.  From #37-45 humanity is ravaged by insane insect creatures until in card #46 when they begin their attack on Mars.

Awesome! I didn't know there was a Mars Attacks! Heritage set. Just looked it up on eBay. Pretty cool stuff.

If you haven't read it yet, Jim Shepard has a tremendous short story he tells through Mars Attacks cards. You can find the story in his collection: Batting Against Castro. For a die-hard MA collector, this is a must read.
