Cards From The Box: Some Pro Set "Special Collectibles"

**In this series we delve deep into this box of cards, purchased for $2.99**

This box had a bunch of Pro Set cards that I've had dozens of copies of through the years but there were two card in particular that I've never seen before.  They were marked as "Special Collectible 4" and "Special Collectible 5."  Here are the great looking cards:

1991 Pro Set Special Collectible #4 Otto Graham
1991 Pro Set Special Collectible #5 Paul Brown
After doing a little research there are five cards with the "Special Collectible" label in the set and they are:

Special Collectible 1 Walter Payton
Special Collectible 2 Red Grange
Special Collectible 3 Jim Thorpe
Special Collectible 4 Otto Graham
Special Collectible 5 Paul Grown

My missing three should be arriving soon from CheckOutMyCards.  I'm not sure where you could find these back in 1991...either through packs or some other promotion but I don't think I've ever seen them before other than the Walter Payton card.  I'm sure someone has the answer out there.

I have the Payton card from when I was a kid. That means it came out of a pack because back then I had nowhere to buy cards other than out of packs at a grocery store.
They definitely came out of the pack in 1991. I picked them all up that year. Believe it or not, I picked up a full master set from packs (bought a bunch of those) that year and even had a special binder I picked up from Pro Set in exchange for points I collected on those game cards that were included in the packs.

They were supposedly seeded on a "limited" basis...which for Pro Set likely meant they made 200 thousand of each instead of a million.
