Fondly Remembering Upper Deck Timeline

It was nice to see a discount blaster of 2008 Upper Deck Timeline waiting for me at Walmart the other day.  You might not like this set based on its incredible number in inserts and short prints.  It advertised that you got two inserts per pack in the retail version and if I remember correctly it was six per pack in the hobby version.   But I enjoy it being a sucker for foil stamping and die-cut cards.

The blaster guaranteed one jersey relic and mine was of B.J. Ryan...you may not have realized it (I hadn't) that B.J. is out of baseball after being released by the Cubs in 2009.  He was one of the best relievers in baseball in 2005 and 2006, recording an unbelievable 1.37 ERA in the 2006 season.

I won't waste any one's time showing the base cards except for two of the more meaningful rookie cards that you can find in this set and both with the Reds no less.  I love this Jay Bruce die-cut but the Joey Votto rookie just looks to obvious that it's a new card using an old design.  I like my retro designs to also trick me into thinking they are an older card.

#119 Joey Votto Rookie Card

And here are my four shortprints.  I hit some more Joye Votto rookie card goodness as well as Jeff Clement who I collect casually.  If anyone is working on this set and needs any of these shortprints just shoot me an e-mail.
