Taking A Look At The Packers 2011 Schedule

Here's some groundbreaking Packers analysis with some new to me old Packers sprinkled in. Nothing quite opens up the wallet like a Super Bowl championship...

1971 Topps Game Inserts #22 Willie Wood

To begin...WE'RE TOTALLY GOING 16-O!!!!!!!!

1972 Topps #231 Gale Gillingham

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'm pretty happy with how this schedule looks this season. We get a Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions so that is a nice change. Besides that, the Pack get one Monday night game, two Sunday night games, and the opening game of the NFL season against the Saints.

1960 Topps #57 Jim Ringo

I guess it's important to note that I'm writing this as if calmer heads prevail and that the NFL season will go off without a hitch...

1971 Topps #55 Willie Wood
And here's the schedule:

Week 1: Saints [Opening Game, Thursday Night]
Week 2: At Panthers
Week 3: At Bears
Week 4: Broncos
Week 5: At Falcons [Sunday Night Game]
Week 6: St. Louis Rams
Week 7: At Vikings
Week 8: Bye

1972 Topps #151 MacArthur Lane

Week 9: At Chargers

There is no active team that the Packers are more dominant against than the Chargers.  All-time the Packers are 8-1 against the Lightening Bolts and they last lost to them in 1984 when Dan Fouts' 358 yards passing was able to beat Lynn Dickey's 368.

Week 10: Vikings [Monday Night Game]
Week 11: Buccaneers

1958 Topps #118 Babe Parilli

Week 12 At Lions [Thanksgiving]

My 2nd favorite holiday just got a little better with a Packers win and hopefully a Cowboys loss.

Week 13: At Giants
Week 14: Raiders

1958 Topps #6 Billy Howton
Week 15: At Chiefs

The Packers play the AFC West this season and so that means as luck would have it they get to play the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium during Week #15!  I got to see their pre-season match-up last season and so it will be nice to get to see a regular season game.

Week 16: Bears [Sunday Night Game]

I'm glad this game is not the last game of the year as it was in 2010...but who knows how the Bears will do this year.  I have a feeling that they aren't going to be Division Champs again.

Week 17: Lions

1964 Philadelphia #73 Forrest Gregg

And here's the break down of the Home and Away games:

2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces #86 Vince Lombardi Black Border

Home Games
Week 1: Saints [Opening Game, Thursday Night
Week 4: Broncos
Week 6: St. Louis Rams
Week 10: Vikings [Monday Night Game]
Week 11: Buccaneers
Week 14: Raiders
Week 16: Bears [Sunday Night Game]
Week 17: Lions

2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces #6 Bart Starr Black Border
Away Games
Week 2: At Panthers
Week 3: At Bears
Week 5: At Falcons [Sunday Night Game]
Week 7: At Vikings
Week 9: At Chargers
Week 12 At Lions [Thanksgiving]
Week 13: At Giants
Week 15: At Chiefs

Realistically, I think a 13-3 or maybe 14-2 record could be a possibility.  I guess it depends on how low the Vikings are, how good the Lions will be next season, and how many interceptions Jay Cutler throws.

Comments

I can't lie - I've looked at the schedule, and I don't see how we're gonna lose one! :)

But seriously, the schedule doesn't look too bad. I am a little worried that except for the opening game against the Saints most of the really tough matchups will be on the road (Falcons, Chargers, Chiefs, Giants). Still, I like our chances.

On a side note - I MUST get those 2 UD Masterpieces cards you put in your post! :)
