Genius Covers: Sgt. Fury And His Howling Commandos #27

There aren't too many things better than the words "Script by Stan Lee" [I guess, "Art by Jack Kirby" would be something slightly better]. Today's cover is from the World War II series staring Sgt. Nick Fury who would go on to lead the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization and is, of course, played by Samuel L. Jackson in the Marvel films. [Spoilers ahead...] The origin of the eye patch isn't quite as dramatic as one would hope...in battle he was hit with shrapnel from a grenade.

This issue dates from February 1966 which was a pretty remarkable month in the Marvel cannon. As you can see from the advertisement in the issue we have the first appearances of Galactus, the Silver Surfer, Kraven the Hunter, and one of the first Magneto story.
