Everybody's Got A Record: Tom Seaver Edition

***In this series we strive to prove the universal truth that every baseball player holds some kind of record.***

Who doesn't need more Tom Seaver in their life? This past year's sets from Topps and Tri-Star have offered quite a few new Toms to the Seaver cannon and I've been picking up most of them as I try to build a fairly respectable Seaver collection.

As far as records go, Tom has several Mets team records but the most prestigious overall would be that no other person has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with a higher percentage of votes. Tom received 98.8% of votes when he was elected in 1992.

To put that into perspective, here are few of the voting percentages for some of the all-time pitching greats:

Nolan Ryan -- 98.79% [elected in 1999]
Sandy Koufax -- 86.87% [elected in 1972]
Warren Spahn -- 82.89% [elected in 1973]
Cy Young -- 76.12% [elected in 1937]
Fergie Jenkins -- 75.40 [elected in 1991]

[To be elected you need to receive 75% of the votes or higher.]

It's amazing to me that Seaver holds the highest HOF vote percentage of all-time. I would have thought that Ripken would have generated that just being that in this day and age of internet driven hype and instant everything, image is everything. I give Seaver his due, he was great. Nolan Ryan was great. Ripken has a youth league system named after him and holds a baseball record most people actually can recite!
